Acteur Adrien Brody, die maandagochtend de Oscar voor de beste mannelijke hoofdrol won, heeft een beroemde moeder: fotografe Sylvia Plachy.
"There's something of the intense and unexpected soulfulness of his mother's photographs that is also present in his acting," noted Richard Goldstein, executive editor of the Voice. "His mom is a great artist, so I'm not surprised he became a great actor."
Sylvia Plachy is a staff photographer for the Village Voice. Her weekly picture for the UNGUIDED TOUR page of the Voice has been a joyous inspiration to a whole generation of photographers. She has also published a book of the same name. Sylvia's work is intuitive, gutsy and oddly familiar like a dream fragment recalled. Her most recent book (with James Ridgeway) RED LIGHT is a compassionate and insightful look at the sex industry. Bookstores report that they can't keep the book on the shelves. Why? Because the book is stolen so often!
